Session 01: Enabling Innovation in Vietnam
Biography:
Dr. An Mei Chen (Trần Mỹ An) is a Senior Director of Engineering at Qualcomm with over 25 years of experience in the wireless industry. Dr. Chen has worked on a multitude of cutting-edge communication technologies and commercial products during her tenure at Qualcomm, including machine learning, mobile AI, the Internet of Things (IoT), mobile broadcast, wireless health, and advanced multimedia and wireless features and services. Her experience spans multiple groups at the company, including technology innovation, product development, business strategy, standardization, and intellectual property. Dr. Chen is a prolific inventor with over 400 U.S. and international granted patents and over 20 refereed publications including several book chapters. Dr. Chen is currently with Qualcomm’s technology licensing business, where she leads advanced projects and drives strategy and ecosystem growth. She is an executive board member of the Corporate Affiliates Program at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering. Dr. Chen also oversees U.S. and international university research collaboration programs for Qualcomm’s licensing division. Dr. Chen received her Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering with an emphasis on wireless communication theory and systems from the University of California.
Abstract:
Since its founding in 1985, Qualcomm has been dedicated to solving problems that require a deep understanding across complex wireless and computing systems. While best known for smartphone semiconductors, Qualcomm has been a leader in fundamental research, standards, and ecosystem enablement for decades – as well as automotive, networking, and IoT products. This talk will highlight some of that work, including Qualcomm’s current solutions as well as its vision for AI, the edge cloud, and Industrial IoT that can enable a new age of invention in Vietnam. The talk will also touch on past and current efforts within Vietnam to support and accelerate the innovation ecosystem.
